In 2012, it took me more than two months to decide if I was able to start affiliate marketing. Is affiliate marketing tough for beginners? Really I couldn’t find any experts to consult on this. So, I’ve made my own decision.
As a result, I faced many problems in my early stages. I don’t want you to face the same. So before I start this article, let me ask you some questions first.
Are you someone who’s looking for an alternative source of income, especially because of the pandemic situation? Have you considered becoming an affiliate marketer? If yes, then you are reading the perfect article.
If you’re a beginner in this field, you’ve probably asked this question – “Is affiliate marketing hard for beginners?” The answer is – yes, affiliate marketing is hard for beginners. Anything is hard in the beginning. But with hard work and patience, affiliate marketing can be a very fruitful venture.
In this article, I’m going to examine every aspect of affiliate marketing and why it may seem hard for beginners. But first, let’s learn a little bit about affiliate marketing.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is an online revenue-sharing agreement, where you promote a product online. If a customer makes a buy directed by your promotions, you get a percentage of that sale or however many purchases that customer makes.
For example, suppose you write content on your blog or making YouTube videos that contain a link to a product with a tracking code. A customer clicks that link and buys anything from your seller’s website, you get a percentage of that sale as commission.
When any visitor buys 1 product by clicking the link you provided, you’ll get a percentage of that particular sale. Again if s/he buys ten products, then you’ll get revenues from them all.
The amount of revenue you receive will be mutually agreed upon by the product seller and you.
Now, don’t worry. The company will not lose track of how many customers were directed through your recommendations. This information is open for you, as well as to the company that hired you.
So, you’re an advertiser. Your job is to market the products to the targeted buyers in a genuine manner. If your seller makes money, then you’ll also make money.

Unlearn the Job Mentality
If you’re new in this line of work, you’re probably looking to earn some money online. Someone probably told you that you could work from home. That it’s so easy that even a baby can do it. Someone may have told you that it’s a scam (Normally it happens with everyone).
Well, I’ve been an affiliate marketer for more than seven years from now, take my word for it. Yes, you can work from home. But it’s not easy, nor is it a scam. Okay, let me tell you what everyone else didn’t say.
First of all, it’s not a job. It’s a business. Your own online business.
The idea of any job seems easy to us. Go to work, get paid. Keep working, get a raise.
But affiliate marketing is not a job. It’s one of the most popular online business methods. And like any other business, it has to be created from the ground up. A business requires hard work and patience.
Your business will be your quality content. Your customers are the people that reach out to you.
Unlike a job, no one is going to hand you a paycheck at the end of the month in this profession.
But with the right dedication, affiliate marketing can start a good passive income for you. It may be more than you expected.
Also, Affiliate Marketing can be an excellent career for you in the future if done correctly. So get out of your job mindset before you start it and manage affiliate marketing as your own business.
Is Affiliate Marketing Hard?
Is it hard to build an affiliate marketing business? Yes. But not impossible. Anyone can overcome this harshness by their enthusiasm.
It is hard if you are raised on employee mentality. It will not be easy for you in your early stages if you do not have the patience to build a business or work smart.
In my experience, I’ve found that many novice marketers in this industry have left their business simply because of less patience. Is this the only reason behind all the failed affiliate marketers?
No, there are some other reasons as well as to why this could be considered difficult. Let’s talk about them and try to avoid these difficulties as well.
- Looking for Shortcuts: Most people think that affiliate marketing is an easy money-making scheme. But the truth is it’s not. So, when their expectations don’t add up, they simply quit. It is not any shortcut business method to make easy money online.
- Lack of Hard Work: Some people think affiliate marketing is so easy that anyone can do it. Their lack of seriousness results in laziness. After a while, they quit and misinterpret their unsuccessful venture as a scam.
- Distracted: Most people who start as an affiliate just want easy money. They dilute their attention to several places instead of one. They invest in scam projects or online businesses that might return twice as money, or something else, without having any knowledgeable idea about anything. This rush to get rich ultimately results in nothing
- Lack of Proper Knowledge: You can’t be successful here if you don’t know how to plan to run this online business. Affiliate marketing will give you the maximum opportunity to get rich from this. For that, you need to acquire the right knowledge about this business before starting.
- Joining Different Training Program: Let me guess on you, if you are beginner, you are following more than 05 gurus to learn affiliate marketing. The common mistake nowadays is to be attracted by any greedy training program. A wrong direction may ruin your affiliate business. In my case, this has distracted me from the basics. So, try to follow one best training program which has the highest acceptance with great reviews.
Once you can overcome these problems and after a while, it becomes easier for you to continue successfully. Most failures of this industry become impatient before the business process is set up.
If you are just planning to start affiliate marketing to become rich ASAP then it not be the best option for you. And also this business will become more challenging day by day to you.
But with the right knowledge and guidelines, affiliate marketing is one of the easiest ways to make money online. So, be patient in your initial moment and plan your business correctly, which can make it a straightforward business for you to run.
Is It Worth It?
For me? Absolutely. Most people complicate it for themselves and end up with nothing. If I had a clear idea about online marketing seven years ago, I’d have made a lot of fewer mistakes.
It is not wrong to expect affiliate marketing to pay off as much as a regular job. But to expect that it’s a cakewalk is absolutely wrong. Whether it’s real life, or online, you have to work hard.
All you need is the right knowledge, encouragement and a laptop. Which I guess you already have.
Is it worth the effort? That’s up to you.
Don’t just waste your time by thinking much as you already know that you have to work hard to become one of the lucky ones in this industry.
Undoubtedly many newcomers nowadays have succeeded with this blooming industry with their due diligence and patience. Then why can’t you be one of them?
Things You Should Know About Affiliate Marketing
Affiliate marketing is a business, and in any business, you have to start from scratch. You need to build your platform like Website/YouTube channel. You have to select products that you’re experienced with. Make sure that when you promote this product, people are not going to turn their heads from you.
It would be best if you were credible enough to sell to your audience. More than 90% of people now don’t like to take any advice from inexperienced people on the internet. They go for knowledgeable reviews. So if you promote something, learn as much as you can about that product.
For example, if you’re promoting a computer, learn about computers. Then learn about that specific specialty of that computer. Find out its pros and cons. Before start promoting, use it if you can. Be as informative as possible to your audiences.
Once you’ve studied the products, learn to write good content. But remember, don’t write to manipulate people into making impulse buying. Help your readers to make an informed decision in their buying process.
Next, focus more on building your audience. If no one is reading your content, then no one is buying anything through your links and therefore, no money for you. Building your audience is probably the biggest challenge you’ll face in Affiliate marketing.
You’ll have to do SEO research and come up with suitable keywords so that it’s easier for your readers to find you. If you use irrelevant vocabulary and keywords, then your readers won’t find your content. And if you’re not visible to your reader, you won’t make money.
Make sure that your content isn’t too difficult for the average reader to understand. Also, the buying links should be visible and easy to find.
To get a workable and accurate knowledge about affiliate marketing, I suggest you go through this affiliate training program where I have learned this business method properly. I firmly believe that this training will be enough for anyone to get profitable results from it.
There is ample opportunity to earn millions from this online business method. But it is your hard work and passion that will lead to success and make you a winner.
So, is affiliate marketing hard for beginners? I hope I’ve been able to give you a clear idea about that. Whether affiliate marketing is hard for beginners or not, is for you to decide.
My advice to you is not to worry about its harshness. Try to focus more on your own affiliate business, learn from mistakes and keep going.
If you work hard at the beginning, it’ll be a booming business in about 1-2 years (It took this time limit for myself). If you can’t work hard, you’ll fail. That’s about as simple as it gets.
